On October 17, 2010, at a Church Conference the membership of Minnetonka United Methodist Church voted to became a Reconciling Congregation.
As a resource to other churches, below you can find a written summary of the process we followed in 2010 to make this change. Members of the Reconciling Ministries team are willing to assist other local United Methodist Churches who are exploring this decision.
Our church is a member of both:
- the national Reconciling Ministries Network. http://www.rmnetwork.org/
- representatives from local United Methodist churches working together for change in Minnesota: http://www.mnrcumc.org/

- For the Bible Tells Me So. A powerful film story that tells about Christian families who discover their child is gay.
- The Shower of Stoles Project. This extraordinary collection celebrates the gifts of GLBT persons who serve God in countless ways, while also lifting up those who have been excluded from service because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The collection bears witness to the huge loss of leadership that the church has brought upon itself because of its own unjust policies. A vivid experience that We display the stole of Rev. Amy Sen's who grew up at
- Jeff and Lori Wilfahrt were our guests at the October 9th Adult Education hour. Corporal Andrew Charles Wilfahrt was killed February 27, 2011 in Kandahar, Afghanistan while serving as a military policeman in the U.S. Army. Andrew was the oldest son of Jeff and Lori Wilfahrt of Rosemount Minnesota, and is thought to be the first known gay Minnesotan to be killed in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since his death, his parents have been outspoken about “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, gay rights, and the proposed Marriage Amendment that is scheduled to be on the 2012 ballot. Andrew’s story has received national attention as his parents work to promote equality in Andrew’s memory
Going forward, this group will present programs to the church and the community that will promote a better understanding of the challenges faced by members of the GLBT community within the denomination and society.
